"Foreclosure activity in the first quarter increased on a year-to-year basis in 46 out of the 50 states and in 90 of the nation's 100 largest metro areas, demonstrating that most regions of the country are seeing more foreclosures," said James J. Saccocio, chief executive officer of RealtyTrac."

The first quarter of 2008 U.S. foreclosure Market Report ranks the nation's 100 largest metroploitan areas by foreclosure rate, California and Florida metro areas accounted for 13 of the top 20 metro foreclosure rates, with the California cities of Stockton and Riverside-San Bernardino taking the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. California's Foreclosures were up 327% in the first quarter of 2008, averaging 500 foreclosures a day.

 

Top Five States for Foreclosures in the Nation:

1.  Nevada       19,595 Notice of Defaults (NOD) were filed.

2.  California  169,831 Notice of Defaults (NOD) were filed.

3.  Arizona       27,404 Notice of Defaults (NOD) were filed.    

4.  Florida        87,893 Notice of Defaults (NOD) were filed.

5.  Colorado    18,996 Notice of Defaults (NOD) were filed.

1.  Stockton                                7,560 Notice of Defauts (NOD) were filed.

2.  Riverside/San Bernadino 37,239 Notice of Defaults (NOD) were filed.

3.  Las Vegas/Paradise         17,320 Notice of Defaults (NOD) were filed.

4.  Bakersfield                           5,113 Notice of Defaults (NOD) were Filed.
